Learn to dance Merengue

Merengue is a fun, easy, and versatile dance that comes from the Dominican Republic. Partners hold each other in a closed position. Following the music, partners bend their knees slightly left and right, thus making the hips move left and right. The hips of the leader and follower move in the same direction throughout the song. Partners may walk sideways or circle each other, in small steps. They can also switch to an open position and do separate turns without letting go each other's hands or releasing one hand. During these turns, they may twist and tie their arm connections into intricate pretzels.

Merengue is a gateway to learning other forms of Latin dancing. It's easy 1 - 2, 1 - 2 stepping allows the student to concentrate mainly on leading / following different turns, pretzels, and combinations that can later be translated into Salsa, Cumbia, and Bachata. If you never danced Latin Dance before, we highly recommend starting with Merengue. It will give you hip movements, fun combinations, and sizzling turns.

This is your ticket to get started! Bootcamp means Training Camp. Though we do not teach a Full 3 hour Bootcamp solely in Merengue, we introduce this dance as part of our Latin Nightclub Bootcamp so you can see how moves in Merengue can be translated into Bachata and Salsa. Latin Nightclub Bootcamp lasts 3 hours with a 10-minute break in between. It is a progressive course. During the first hour, we start with the basic steps and necessary foundations to start dancing Merengue, Bachata, and Salsa. As the course progresses, we continue with different exercises that teach you how to create different combinations and figures. On each 101 Bootcamp, we cover different moves. Do not forget to bring your cameras. At the end of the bootcamp, you can record all the steps and combinations so you can practice them in the future.

We do not offer 102 Merengue Group Classes because you can learn it for free šŸ˜Š Or you can take our Fun, Entertaining Salsa, Bachata, Cumbia Lessons for Beginners and Improvers in Houston, TX to later modify the turns into Merengue rhythm. Merengue will help you improve your basic body motion, coordination, leading and following techniques.

Level 102 is for students that have completed our Foundations 101 bootcamp on the weekend - see our calendar. If you never danced before, we recommend joining a 101 Bootcamp first. No partner required to attend the 102 classes, but please let us know you are coming.
